WHAT IS GRANITE?
Granite is a light – coloured igneous rock with grains large enough to be visible with the unaided eye. It forms from the slow crystallization of magma below Earth’s surface.
Granite is composed mainly of quartz and feldspar with minor amounts of mica, amphiboles, and other minerals. This mineral composition usually gives granite a red, pink, gray, or white color with dark mineral grains visible throughout the rock.
WHAT IS GRANITE USED FOR?
Traditionally Granite has been used in kitchens for benchtops due to its robust and resistant nature. In recent years, Granite has become popular once again with Architects and Designers as the variety of colours and finishes in Granite is more modern than in previous years of mining.
Often available in light and dark colours, Granite is distinguished by its smaller pores that sometimes appear to have a sheen to them.
Granite is also a popular choice amongst landscapers who use the material to make retaining walls, exterior entrance features and driveways and pathways.
