WHAT IS TRAVERTINE?
Travertine is a form of terrestrial limestone deposited around mineral springs, especially hot springs. It often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, cream-colored, and even rusty varieties.
It is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. In the latter, it can form stalactites, stalagmites, and other speleothems. It is frequently used in Italy and elsewhere as a building material.
WHAT IS TRAVERTINE USED FOR?
Travertine is a widely sought after interior product for many modern homes and hotels due to it’s rustic appearance and neutral color tones.
A popular Travertine application is indoor and outdoor flooring using unfulfilled tiles and pavers. Over time the unfilled nature of the Travertine is to age with use, making it the perfect choice for Spanish and coastal style homes.
Travertine can also be used in kitchens as a feature but for this application, it is recommended to use a honed and filled Travertine. When Travertine is filled, it means that the natural pitting of the material is filled, making it a better application for benchtops.
